The first match of 2016 saw our boys register their first win of the Season in a 7 goal thriller! It really was end to end hockey that was amazingly 0 - 0 at half time. Both keepers pulled off a number of saves to keep out both teams during the first 30 minutes. From the restart though Epsom scored first. That only seemed to spur our boys on and they had soon rattled in 4 goals in reply - all 4 coming from good teamwork and strong shooting. Hard to pick out a favourite but from a coaching view point, we have been working on shooting/scoring a lot in training recently, and it was very satisfying to see an early shot at goal as soon as we entered “the D” - and despite that shot beating the keeper but striking the far post, Bertie followed up to hit the rebound past the keeper. From the relative comfort of 4-1 up, we then conceded 2 late goals leaving those watching on the side lines to endure an anxious last 2 minutes. But we held on for the 4-3 win.

It is very hard to select a "man of the match" given our all round play so it is awarded to everyone: Adam for his match winning saves in the first half; Nathan S, James and Aidan for their defensive stability and tackling at the back; Luke F, Madhav and Joe running their socks off in the middle; Harvey, Ryden, Bertie and Isaac for their attacking wing play and tracking back to help the defence; Nathan L, Jonathan and Luke P up front for their non-stop movement and running and getting into goal scoring positions and Anthony for his 2 goals and "assist" off the post.
