Sunday 28th February Surrey In2Hockey Cup at Trinity School.

This was unknown territory for the U10 Boys squad and they were all excited, even a little nervous
to be playing in a Cup tournament, and to find out who they would be playing against.

We had been drawn against some tough opposition and were up for the challenge. Unfortunately
due to the amount of teams playing there was no pitch space to properly warm up so we just had to
wait until it was our turn to play. Games were 12 minutes one way.

Our first match was against Epsom. It was an even paced match. Our strikers had several good
attempts at goal, and equally our Goalkeeper had plenty of chance to practice his saves with shots
aimed against him. The Cheam boys kept working and pushing up through the Epsom defence,
however we were unlucky to finish with just a 1-1 draw. Goal scorer Loic.

Our second game we played against a very strong Surbiton team. The Cheam boys started swiftly,
hungry for some more goal action and we narrowly missed getting a goal in the first couple of
minutes. After that Surbiton proved to be very determined against us with plenty of very strong hits.
Despite the Cheam boy’s best efforts and some gutsy saving from the Goalkeeper the final score was
3-0 Surbiton win.

Our 3rd match was against Oxted. After a motivational team talk from Frosty and some changes to
the squad formation the Cheam boys started strong. The Cheam boys were determined in their will
for goals. Despite having several attempts at goal, we couldn’t find the back of the net. Oxted
however had a lucky shot through our defence and scored. 1-0 Oxted win.

Our 4th match was against Guildford. We knew we were up against a strong side and our boys started
fast, accurate and strong. The Cheam boys superb play took Guildford by surprise and we struck
accurately at goal.0-1 Cheam. A great start for our boys, however, Guildford came back at us very
quickly. Despite great efforts from Cheam defence and Goalkeeper, final score 3-1 Guildford. Goal

5th and final match was against Old Kingstonians. The Cheam boys held their heads high despite the
previous few matches disappointing score results. Cheam did brilliantly attacking and passing
through the Old Kingstonians defence. Before long Cheam had a great strike at goal. 0-1 Cheam. The
Cheam defence did well blocking shots and accurately passing up the field. Cheam made a second
goal. 0-2 Cheam win. Goal scorer Anthony and Loic.

It was great for the Cheam boys’ morale to finish with a win. Despite not making it through to the
final stages, the boys had coped well with the pressure of some stronger teams and enjoyed taking
part.
