I am only just recovering from what was a high octane and stressful hockey game against Riverside. It seems appropriate to take a calm moment to reflect and, like everyone else, I do this by googling Jerry Springer quotes in my lunch hour and considering how these can be applied to our everyday lives... in doing so, we can all achieve a state of constant serenity...

All of us, whether or not we're celebrities, captains, hockey players or social members, every one ought to spend part of their life making someone else's life better. Including them in our world and social circle. This may involve passing the ball. When we share with each other, wonderful things happen. Like goals. This philosophy, it would appear... is not prevalent in Australia.

I'm a happy person, but if I'm in a rare dark mood, I won't go out because I don't want to be horrible to people. Somebody ought to relay this philosophy to some of the grumpier players that graced PWs field last night (both sides) - lots of aggressive play and choice language does not make for a relaxing or enjoyable summer league game. Mowing down youngsters in a bid for glory is not how one makes friends. Laughing moronically at the opposition isn't either - this is some personal feedback I will take on board...

The bias against the Cheam hockey club and our lack of national league players is purely elitist. We're all like other people that play hockey - the difference is that some of us speak better, or were born richer. There's nothing that happens on the pitch that national league players don't experience. The key difference is disposition - or a sense of humour - or ability to crack a smile.

If you can't be committed to a hockey club, at least be committed to the concept of character and don't cheat. While the team was made up of some extremely loyal Cheam mates last night, those that are invited to play and turn up with goalie kit and outfield kit but instead are put upon to umpire (thanks Krish), there are others that remain constantly in the back of my mind as people that have hurt the club with their rampant promiscuity - Julio, Brandi, Gary Allen - and others that dabble with other clubs, insisting this is an 'open relationship' - Charlie Ede.

Finally, we are all born as empty vessels which can be shaped by moral values, snakebite and a hearty hockey game. The spectacular goals from Jenny, Gaz, and Kat this week were a demonstration of how we can achieve more together than alone. I was very proud of a team that overcome adversity to win the game - even if that adversity was partly caused by A BIT of friendly fire...

Look after yourself, and each other.
