Cheam Ladies 2 0 - 3 Oxted Ladies 2

With our captain out with broken fingers and a last minute call up of a rugby player to come and play defence, we were looking a little thin on the ground of players. With 10 and a rugby player we started the match. It took us a while as usual to get out head in the game and that was just enough time For Oxted to get 2 goals past us. Once we woke up we were all over it. Some beautiful transitions between Daria and Naerger in the mid up to the forwards made for some "sexy hockey" while Dr G found a fantastic new position at back of diamond, a bit of a step change from her usual pitch-side A&E. While she was making all the right moves, passes and in the right position at every step, Dr G made it clear at half-time that this was entirely accidental - but with less blood and broken bones this week. Maloney's enthusiasm on the side line made the team fight harder. Gill found a new hockey buddy in Amirah and the 2 of them had an amazing game with Gill taking the 16s and smashing it to Amirah up front.

At half time we were 2-0 down but we were starting to dominate the game. Some unlucky misses on the post kept us from getting out the starting gates. It has to be said that Oxted's mini-ninja goalie had an absolute stormer of a game and kept Oxted comfy despite soaking up a load of Cheam pressure. Viv was dominating the mid field and controlling the front line. It was evident that we all wanted a goal but it just didn't happen. In the second had Doak didn't touch the ball until the last 10 mins of the game where her keeping skills were tested. Luckily she had her better half to save the day when after savings the first shot, the attack went for the rebound that was saved on the line by Rugby player Ro. "Couples that save goals together, stay together". Sadly another goal was put past Doak 5 mins before the end. Despite great hockey being played we couldn't secure the win we wanted. It was a great game but sadly lack of players hindered us.

Special mentions this week go to Amirah, whose debut for the 2s was stuff of legend and to Dr G who did a sterling job and might find herself 'out of position' a whole lot more for the rest of the season. Miraculously, no injuries this week... no game on the 12th but there are two ladies games at home - we expect to see you all pitchside!
