Willy V Linnette

The game we had all been waiting for had arrived. Willy had been preparing us for weeks, giving us the ins and outs of Edwardians team. Who to look out for, who to place in Maloneys pocket to avoid doing any damage. Willy even took matters into his own hand and supplied Linnette with alcohol the night before a game in the hopes that the Edwardians back line might weaken. Sadly this was not the case. Edwardians came out strong with their last line of attack being their defensive line. Linnette once got so high she felt faint from altitude sickness and fell (not helped by the frost settling in over the pitch). Sadly Maloneys player got the better of her and made a quick escape into the D and with a reverse stick scored Edwardians first goal. We battled hard and got to half time only 1 goal down. Stephs legs were getting a good work out as the ball moved from one half to the other. It had been a tough half for both teams.

As the second half began, play continued at a high level. Both teams wanted a goal and it was a matter of which team would break first. Kirsty was having a stormer in Mid field and was called back into defence once a moment of... momentary laps of hockey conciousness... shall we call it, from Viv lead to the oppo scoring another goal. No one told Viv that Doak (her own keeper) didn't need to be marked. After turning to make a dive to save a goal, Doak was confronted with Viv stood in her path. Doak jumped on Viv, Viv fished the ball off of the line and passed it back to the oppo, the oppo hit the post and while Doak and Viv were tangled together the oppo placed the ball in the back of the net. A messy and costly goal. Despite this Doak actually managed to get MOM opposed to Doak of the day this week which is a first.

Other notable moments included Toni taking a tumble while stood stationary ready to take a 16. luckily she fell before hitting the ball so it was only a matter of brushing herself off and trying desperately not to think of her nomination for DOD before having a take 2 at the hit. Sadly for her it was the winning moment of the game for DOD. Jules had a short spell up front, not a lot happened while up there but she seemed to enjoy it. Doak messed up the team sheet missing Toni off, luckily Toni took no notice of it and turned up anyways. Maloney had also forgotten to invite Toni to the friday night tactics social. Never again will Toni be forgotten for anything. Sallabank made a wonderful appearance in the 2s and played well up front. She kept Linnette on her toes, on occasions running circles around her.

Overall it was a great game enjoyed by both teams.
