Despite a good second half comeback, the men's 1s were compounded to their first league defeat of the new season.
The first half saw an open game, with plenty of chances falling to both sides.
The only difference being one side seemed to be able to take their chances when they came, while the other didn't (sorry lads). The half ended 2-1, with the Cheam goal scrambled in by Willy after a beautifully cushioned mistrap from Will after good work from Russ.
Fresh from Steve's half time words that we were 'shitting the oppo to death', the first 15 minutes of the second half was some of Cheam's best hockey of the season. Oxted however scored again against the run of play and the game seemed out of Cheam's grasp.
A late comeback however saw a nervy ending for Oxted as first, Gunny stuck the ball into the roof of the net and followed it with a unique bullet celebration even though we were trailing the game 4-2. Jamie Weston them capped of a good performance with a back post goal after good work from Russ again.
The final whistle came too soon for us - 'we'd have won if we'd played for 5 more minutes'.
So Cheam's one game winning streak comes to an end all too quickly, but another is still going strong: Gunny's DOD streak, this week awarded for the celebration, a graceful slip followed by a lie down on the pitch for 30 seconds and also dribbling the ball into the oppos D from about 2cm. Keep up the good work mate!
