Ok, catching up on a backdated report here, which I am filling in for no other reason than the historical record of goals scored...
An early preseason game was played against London Eds. This was the second such encounter, with Cheam putting in an impressive performance and coming away with a comfortable win in the previous fixture.
This was not to be such an easy ride. Eds turned up with a much stronger team. The Cheam side, while decent, did not have the benefit of subs that we had enjoyed last time out. A last minute bail-out by William Gunn left us with a bare 11 and little breathing space.
Eds played hard and had good possession, with Cheam dangerous on the break. Both sides had good spells of play and Cheam's keeper made some decent saves, while at the other end we caused Eds problems too.
In the second half, Omar Shibli, playing up front, scored the goal that put Cheam 1-0 up. great interplay between Seb Jennings and Matthew Laidman saw a beautifully weighted ball put through, for Omar to put ih his now customary burst of acceleration away from the defence. He reached the ball just ahead of the keeper and deftly guided it past the oncoming goalie with a reverse stick finish. Classic #lad.
Unfortunately, as the game wore on, tiredness took its toll and the treachery of Gunny came into play. Eds pressed and scored an equaliser with not long to play. 1-1 was possibly a bit hard on Cheam's play, but with a win and a draw against the team who won the division we have just been promoted into, it is certainly a decent start.
