The nominations are below: (in alphabetical order)

Lucy Browne
Ladies 1s, Development Officer, ever willing club volunteer. Lucy has been one of the driving forces for the ladies section, dedicating a lot of time and effort in to a number of activities, from organising team to securing funding, to coaching the juniors. This year Lucy arranged the back to hockey initiative with England Hockey and attended the sessions to encourage all new joiners to stick with sport. She has been an enthusiastic member and cares for all levels of the club, she is involved with Ladies Development Side, trying to help transition the girls in to ladies hockey and is always one of the first people to put their hand up whenever something needs to be done at the club. She is always looking for funding opportunities and widen the base of support for the club to new members. Willing to umpire, coach, play for any side, Lucy has helped many other sides play on Saturday.

Rebecca Emily (Doak)
Goalkeeper, Ladies Captain, Playing administrator, Club Secretary and ever willing volunteer. Beccy has been wearing many hats this year as well as her helmet on Saturdays. In a season of transition for the ladies’ section, Beccy has been stepping in to the breach on more than one occasion to ensure the club has been able to keep running. Doing many of the unglamorous admin roles, emails and organising she has been ever willing to help, from organising coaches, player availability to coaches for the juniors, she even recently stepped in to the role of club secretary. Beccy is one of the rare club members, a ladies goalkeeper, meaning she is forever in demand and would often double up to all parts of Surrey.

Grant Dormer
Captain, junior coach, ever willing volunteer for the club, the other half of Cheam hockey club’s power couple. Grant (the Becks in the couple) captains the Men’s 4s (formerly the Clarets) and has overseen the transition of a side, with new players coming in and some longstanding members stepping down, which has meant it has been a difficult season at times with limited availability. Despite these challenges, Grant has been positive throughout the season and helped the Men’s 4s complete a tricky season. Grant has also been part of the player/parent/coach team, braving Sunday mornings to ensure more kids get in to hockey and enjoy the sport we all know and love.

Mark Frost
Goalkeeper, parent coach, legend. Some believe Frosty invented hockey, he has been at the club long before many of us were just a twinkle in our mother’s eye. Frosty has been at the heart of the club for many years and seen many players develop throughout. Frosty is one of the first to help out whenever he can, often doubling up as a keeper or helping on Sundays. In a season where Frosty was challenging for an international call up, he has always been available for whatever team needed a keeper. Never seeking the limelight the living legend has been a rock for the club.

Joe Oddy
Men’s 3s, 4s and Hunters Coach, Back to Hockey Coach, occasional player, social media spin doctor and stash hand. Long standing member of the club, footballer turned hockey player now a vital member of the coaching team. Joe has helped a number of players develop their game, from players just starting out or returning to the game for the first time, juniors on being part of a team to senior players on some of the finer points of the game. Joe’s enthusiasm for the game and the club comes across in his drills and is widely enjoyed by throughout the club. Joe is also the mastermind behind our social media, Facebook and Twitter both have grown exponentially, with England Hockey even nominating Cheam as their Hockey club of the month. He has recently cloned himself to cover all bases.

Stacy Main
Ladies 1s, Junior Coordinator, Coach, Cheerleader. Another of Cheam’s South African imports, Stacy has been coordinating the ever growing and recently rebranded Junior Section. Taking over from Jenny Brenham, Stacy ensured Cheam is able to have numerous teams throughout the all age groups have coaches, pitch time, tournaments and hopefully some of her enthusiasm for the sport and the club rub off on them. The growth of the junior section has been a tremendous success story for the club, thanks to all the volunteers and parents bringing their kids to the club, they all need coordinating, names, details, information, all have looked to Stacy and her leadership has ensured the Junior section is able to run without fail every Sunday. Whilst availability has been difficult, she is always willing with her time for any team that has needed her to play and can also be seen cheering on the side line.

Claire Ramsey
Ladies 1s captain, coach, umpire all round good egg. Like her name sake Sylvester Stallone, pulled back out of retirement, Rambo stepped back in to the Ladies’s 1 captaincy half way in the season. Always willing to help the club where she can, Rambo is willing to umpire any team who finds themselves short, coach whenever there is an need, help organise teams that need it. Again one of the first hands to be raised when there is something that needs to be done, the club wouldn’t run without the willing volunteer who does the thankless task, and year on year, Rambo has been one of them. As well as being a fixture in the ladies 1s she is always willing to help develop the next generation of players.

Ian Sharpe
Long standing player, ever reliable defender, umpire coordinator, junior coach and silver fox. One of the few members at Cheam who actually knows the rules. Ian is ever willing to help the club whenever he can, especially helping with the age old issue for every captain, “who do we have to umpire this Saturday?” Arranging umpires for Saturday is the worry that keeps captains up late in the night, and Sharpe’s round robin emails have helped all captains secure umpires by hook or by crook they have someone with a whistle. Ian is one of a growing number of players/parent/coaches who turn up on Sundays to help bring hockey to the next generation of players, as a senior member in the Hunter’s team he helps transition juniors in to senior hockey and many of the current crop of junior players have Ian to thank for helping them develop.
