Cheam L3s 3 - 2 London Edwardians L4s

Arriving at a very wet and windy Streatham, we were met by a helpful caretaker telling us that we could not use the Changing Rooms but could change in the Porta Loo pitch side (thereby earning him the DOTD award): no roof on our dug-out: and a last minute drop out by 1 of our squad. Undeterred we started the game on the attack and soon took the lead on 10 minutes. A nice passing move down our right led to the ball coming to Louisa on the left side of the D who shot into the net. We then had a number of further chances to increase our lead, only to be pegged back by an equaliser half way trough the first half. That only seemed to spur us on as we regained the lead a few minutes later when Maz finished off another lovely move down the left with a crisp shot against the back board. 2-1 up at the half time whistle.

With the rain continuing to pour down the second half was end to end with both sides having chances to score. Our defence was particularly strong on short corners, repelling the opposition a number of times. We then scored from one of our own short corners: Laura injected to Quayle, whose shot was saved by the keeper only for Laura, arriving at the near post, to hit the rebound into the goal. Chances came and went for both sides after that until the opposition scored with 16 minutes left after a well worked short conner routine (the only one that got the better of us.) The team then held out fairly easily for the duration of the game until the last 2 minutes when we had to face 2 short corners in quick succession. Emily saved the first attempt with a flying save to her right: the second was repelled by the concerted efforts of the whole defence. 3-2 to Cheam at the final whistle.
