Cheam L3s 3 - 1 Croydon and Old Whitgiftians L2s

Cheam Ladies 3s started off the week in good form. We had a solid 13 players and were looking forward to finally seeing a bit of green on the results page. Saturday morning arrived and as we watched the sunrise from the home pitch we realised our 13 players had dwindled to a mere 9. Eeeek ... okay so 2 were struck with the plague, one had a diary clash and the fourth, probably abducted by aliens, we'll never truly know where the 4th vanished to.

We were relieved to discover after numerous recounts that the opposition were also struggling to keep track of their players, so we took the field 9 vs 10. The opposition had first push back and the game was on. Cheam Ladies 3s were all over the field. The opposition just couldn't seem to cover our 9 players even though they had a spare. The first half was spent predominantly in the oppositions half with the odd breakaway from their forwards just to keep Emily Neden and the defence from dosing off.

After a quick pep talk from coach Shaun, some liquid and sugar refreshment we were ready to turn our hard work into points. With some amazing team work and a few 3D skills Louisa managed to finally find the goals and Cheam were 1 goal up. Yay .. we'd scored and never before had a goal been so richly deserved. Croydon seemed to have had a pep talk too and came out fighting, it didn't take long before they were in our D and won a short corner. We managed to keep the ball from going in to the goal and with a some decent clearance the ball was headed back to the opposition's D.
Laura determined to see her name in lights, decided since the ball was in the D anyway she might as well roll it gently, gently just over the line, then proceeded to look questioningly at the umpire. Yes Laura it was a goal, we'll have to work on your celebratory dance for next time.

With Cheam now on a roll we decided to see if we could sneak in a third goal and what do you know, Bryony managed to do just that. We were now sitting at 3 goals to none. With constant yelling from their goalie, the opposition took a chance and managed to sneak a goal in past the defence and under the keepers foot which brought the game to 3 - 1.

What an great game of hockey we played.
