Cheam defeat hangovers, frostbite, and Woking

A cold 10:00 start in mid-November is normally not the most enticing of prospects. With the proposed 09:15 meet time roundly ignored, our well-heeled heroes arrived in enough time just to pad-up and get on with it.

With Blossom pinched by the 1s in the wake of a goalkeeping crisis, there was a welcome 3s return for Cheam legend, and everyone's favourite human being, Frosty. In fact the general excitement around Frosty had Blossom trying his best to hide his jealousy on the M3s Whatsapp group. The hype was well worth it, as Frosty perfectly marshalled the back line for a thoroughly deserved clean sheet. His first, and only touch of the game was a calm side-foot out to Chris at left back late in the second half. Either way, his match fee was waived, as £10 per touch seemed a bit steep.

Woking certainly were no cannon-fodder, and they started brightly with some neat passing down the channels. The defence held a high line and kept the D untroubled with some nice early tackles. We then clicked through the gears and Jonny opened the scoring from a slightly scruffy short corner. Goalman and Fisty then decided to get involved, and we were 3 nil up by half time.

The second half was just as dominant as the first, with Goalman ending the contest shortly after the restart with our fourth goal.
The team have decided the hold an internal competition this year: Goalman vs the Rest of the Team in the goal scoring stakes. Sadly during the last half an hour our Team's chances of winning this award took a bit of a battering, with Goalman grabbing 3 more (5 for the day and 22 for the season vs the Team's 16). He rounded off his morning nicely by getting a Green Card and spending the last 2 minutes of the match on the sidelines.

Other Highlights / Incidents:
1) With Chris 'Mike Brown' Powell brutally slain two weeks ago by a BoE defender and out till the new year, Keddie has been filling in well at left wing. However, his spectacular swing and miss was enough to put him into contention for this week's DotD award. As was his beautifully 'weighted' pass into the left channel, which he crashed off the pitch at close to 10,000 mph.

2) Chris Blackmore has been getting a lot of stick from the team recently about his alleged 'complete lack of stick skills' to complement his pace. Plus there is the small matter of his life choice of becoming an RE teacher. However, his fine display at LB was worthy of his second MoM award of the season.

3) Simon

The low-light of the morning was of course the collapse of the promised 'post-match pitch-side BBQ' while watching the 1s. This had gained much attention during the week, and though I wasn't expecting Glastonbury in BBQ form, I was hopeful of a cheeky post-shower sausage or two. Sadly the prospect of grilling food outside at 2 degrees deterred one too many, and the idea was shelved.

DotD:
A few contenders this week...

Bender (2 votes) - for not getting involved in the match, and for picking a fight with an incredibly scary looking bloke from his boxing club. He'll surely get a shot at Mayweather after knocking Richie McCaw's bigger, more robust twin out in February.

Goalman (4 votes) - For nearly screwing up teas, a green card, and double-hat-trick avoidance.

Keddie (4 votes) - mentioned above

The Gin-face tie-breaker was duly 'won' by Goalman, making it two Teginsky's in the bank for him next week.
Ouch.

Another early start next Saturday. See you at training.
