Unbeaten run ended in bizarre encounter

It had to happen some time. It's just a shame it happened the way it did.

5-2 up with 20 minutes to go, this should have been 3 points, but the Cheam backline had a real off-day, and James Morris' hat-trick heroics were overshadowed but a tonne of other incidents.

In a morning which saw 5 separate torrential downpours in 70 minutes, we walked away from a pulsating game of hockey soaked, and feeling like it was a day where everything that could have gone wrong, did.

The following incidents when against us:

1) Pube got lost on the way to the pitch and turned up 10 minutes into the second half.
2) Mike Brown got assaulted after 15 minutes, and with Pube still circling Richmond Park, it left us with 10 men for a large portion of the game.
3) Bank, a team described as 'awful' by our friends Goan a few weeks ago, had an amazing selection week, and turned up with a centre forward who would frankly be wasting his time playing at this level regularly. He duly set up / scored all 6 of their goals.
4) Jonny was pushed violently in the back only to be sent to the sidelines himself.
5) With seconds to go, and a draw likely, the umpire decided to give Bank a Short Corner for a non-deliberate foot two metres outside the D. Given how the morning had gone, when the SC shot hit the post, only to bounce straight to their forward on the line to tap in, there were expressions of helplessness all round.

To compound all of this Dom (me) trod in something heinous while using the open-air facilities. And, yes, I forgot to wipe it off before putting my shoes into my bag. Summed up the day, a steaming pile of excrement.

A day to forget, but thankfully followed up with a fine early-morning win at Wanderers the following week.
And what of our conquerers? A defeat vs Woking 5s.
Hmmmm.
