Why can't Cheam and OGs ever have a dull 0-0?

The new James Bond film, Spectre was released this week. A much anticipated blockbuster where the dashingly handsome hero battles against a despicable old foe, and finishes up on top in the end. Having sparred well in the past, it was the heroes' turn to visit the evil underground base of the OGs (I'm embellishing a bit here perhaps).

Where Bond tends to carry out his best work in the hotel rooms of glamourous cities like Rome, Mexico City, and whatever the capital of Montenegro is; we prefer the cool embrace of sand, astroturf, and a collection of sweaty men.

Unfortunately, most of us would find any old excuse to avoid a 4pm winter away fixture. A bit like Blossom and Leg Day. Rather than ignore it though, we did the right thing and assembled a strong squad despite a few absentees. Sadly Buchols was too busy watching other people play sport; Ted went on something called a holiday; and Chris B decided to take in the student vibe down at 'Jesticles'.

We started brightly, getting into their D nicely in the early exchanges. #Garyallen managed to keep the ball on the floor long enough to give us the lead, after a slick move down the right hand side. OGs were sparked into action by this and created a flurry of chances, eventually finding the net with a quick break. The contest remained remarkably even, but Gary Morley (another nice move down the right) and Goalman (short corner) gave the heroes a 3-1 lead at half time.

We knew OGs would react, but we perhaps had one or two chances to put the game out of reach before the home side hit back to make it 3-2. Prior to this a fine strike had hit the bar, which had Keddie fuming about how close the ball had sailed past his 'money'.

With two minutes to go we conceded our first short corner of the season, meaning both sides left with a point - probably a fair result. All in all the performance was probably more 'Die Another Day' (disjointed, slightly camp nonsense) than 'Skyfall' (see Goan match report) but this was a handy draw against a strong side.

So what of the fast cars and the women? Are Cheam Bond-like in this regard too? Well, sadly one look at mine or Jamroll's car would be enough to make 007 weep, and some members of our squad are getting a reputation for being 'non-closers'. So I'm afraid the similarities end there.

MotM - it was pretty much bed time by the time we reached the clubhouse, and a depleted number of voters somehow allowed Brandi to sneak the victory. Rather like any General Election held ever

DotD - having already committed himself to attend next week's Haloween club social. The general thinking was that a Teginski would be a good way to grease the wheels for club newcomer Chris Blackmore. Get there early people, and bring waterproof clothing.

Looking forward to the next blockbuster Cheam / OGs instalment in the new year.
