A tough test this week, but the unbeaten run rolls on...

To be completely honest I think the highly articulate Sunbury captain put it best, so I hope he doesn't mind me posting his match report!
We were a little beleaguered this week, and were also well below par. However, we managed to come away with three points after some hard work, a bit of luck, and a great performances from Blossom and a hat-trick Goalman.

Over to the oppo...

"This week the Men's 4th XI hosted an unbeaten Cheam side and with an early meet time we were certainly keen to end their unbeaten record! The Hawks started very brightly putting Cheam firmly on the back foot having to deal with our new target man, Nathan! However Cheam managed to weather our early storm and completely against the run of play, aided by some sloppy Hawks defending, managed to take the lead as a bullet effort flew past Gus and into the goal. The Cheam side with their negative "park the bus" tactics couldn't have been prepared for the ensuing Hawks on-slaught as wave after wave of Hawks attacks were repelled and recycled. This high intensity of hockey proved too much for the Cheam defence and as shots bounced around the D as if in a pinball machine our prolific goal scorer, Todd, once again pounced to lash it into the goal! 1-1: game on! At half time Nathan and Wrighty were very positive about our chances of fulfilling our goal and securing at least a point during the second half. Unfortunately this formidable Cheam side had other ideas and emerged like butterflies from caterpillars' cocoons flitting and flying around the pitch running the Hawks defence ragged. The Hawks held firm, even creating the odd chance on the counter attack utilising the quick thinking of the likes of Archie and Vijay. Unfortunately as the game drew to a close the Hawks fatigued and this classy Cheam side showed why they have such a good re-cord this season. Firstly from a short corner that was clinically dispatched into the bottom left corner evading all the Hawks' efforts to prevent the breakthrough. After this our morale was severely hit and despite our best efforts Cheam were able to score another with a typical goal line scrap which resulted in a fortunate bobble slicing through our defence and the ball eventually nestled in our net. 3-1, gutting! The Hawks threw everything including the kitchen sink at the Great Wall of Cheam in the last five minutes creating chances and short corners but regrettably to no avail and un-deservedly we had no points to show for our efforts. Nevertheless we should keep our heads held high as we put in a sublime performance against a very strong opposition."
