Jamie G's journalistic debut!

Cheam 2s arrived at a cold and damp Addington pitch with hopes of picking up much needed points to kick start the rest of the season. The warm up and pre game talk was positive and the game kicked off with Cheam looking the more adventurous team and should have been further ahead at half time than the single goal scored by Gaz with a typical poachers goal after a rebound off the keeper.

I don't know who provided the half time jelly babies but they must have been spiked as Cheam allowed Addington to dominate the first 10 minutes of the second half and they managed to score from 2 short corners. Krish excelled himself by managing to punch the ball into his own net attempting to save from one of the drag flicks. Short corners are a Cheam specialty - we concede goals but can't score from our own!

Cheam managed to shake off the jelly baby affect and occasionally some good hockey broke out. Both teams created chances and Ashton eventually managed to make up for a late night by scoring an impressive reverse shot goal (he looked to be meandering aimlessly but obviously had it all planned out - maybe!).

Cheam had a number of short corners but we managed to live up to our reputation and scored from none of them.

Shep excelled himself by smacking the keeper in the chest with a full swing of his stick. He got a short corner out of that so it must have impressed their umpire.

I embarrassed myself a little with what looked like a poorly attempted Morley spin (which I would say was a poorly attempted pass which went nowhere near a team mate or myself) but I made up for it with a precision shot that was heading for the top right corner which brought out a good strong stick save from their keeper (it’s my report so I’ve got to mention it).

As usual Cheam played some good hockey but must learn to put away teams when we are in control. We have a good mix of experienced (or old - you know who you are!) players and some enthusiastic youngsters. That should be a recipe for success so let’s look forward and move up the table.

A single point was the slightly disappointing result but everyone continued to put in the effort and coming back from a goal down was the least we deserved. We won't mention that we had 2 subs and they had none.

MOM – Coops for age defying running
DOD – Gaz. No real reason though
(Honorable mention Cockles)
