Reigate Priory 1 v 0 Cheam Colt Girls U14

Report: On the 14th of March Cheam played a tough match against Reigate. Reigate attacked well, but didn't get many chances to shoot because our defence was strong. We managed to have a few shots at goal but unfortunately didn't score.

After half time Cheam made some good passes up the right wing into the D, but Reigate defended well and we didn't manage to score. Then Reigate made some good passes through our defenders and scored a goal. Cheam were determined to score and attacked well. It was nearly the end of the match when Katrina took a shot from the top of the D which unfortunately hit the post.

It was a very close game and Cheam played really well although missing Sophie, Saffron and Eloise; well done to Katie who played a very good first game. Thank you to Barry for coaching and to all the parents for their support.

Cheam Colt Girls U14 3 v 1 Tulse Hill and Dulwich Girls U14

Report: On the 7th of February Cheam played their biggest match of the season, against Tulse Hill, who were top of the league table, with us . We played two halves of 30 minutes, which the team found tiring, but coped well with. It took us a short while to get into the game, but then Eloise scored a tremendous goal which flew past the keeper. Cheam ran back smiling as we took the lead, which made us more confident. We then enjoyed the game, with some lovely team work upfront and up the wing.

Unfortunately Tulse Hill came back with a goal soon afterwards to make the score 1-1. Sophie terrorized the other team by doing many runs up the right wing, and soon after that Eloise did an amazing cross, for Saffron to sweep it in. Cheam were pleased to be back in the lead again. The defence also played well, with tight marking and Zara not letting a single ball past her. It was Eleanor’s birthday and she played very well, throwing in a few goal-stopping tackles. Devina did some very good passes up the left wing to Esther whenever the defence where in trouble, and Esther did some excellent passes into the circle. After that Clare got a break and ran on, and hit it on target. The team were delighted when we heard the backboard sound. We kept going, despite being exhausted, until the half time whistle went.

Substitutions were made and feeling good and after going through some more tactics, Cheam was ready to go and play again. The second half started well, but Tulse Hill were pushing up and making the defence work harder. Laura and Natalie did some excellent tackles, pressurizing them into making mistakes. The play in midfield was good and despite many chances of Sophie flying down the wing, we were unable to score in the second half. Eloise got hit in the stomach by a very fast-paced ball, but carried on very bravely. Mel did some controlled runs and passes up the left and Katrina got some good interceptions. The performance didn’t slack in the second half and we were all very pleased with the result, 3-1.

Cheam played really well and congratulations on keeping the winning streak going. Much appreciation to the parents and coaches for the support, and thank you to the umpires. The whole team was outstanding and for this reason there was no girl of the match. Thank you to Tulse Hill, and we are looking forward to our next match against Reigate, who we hope to beat, so we can win our league.

Surbiton Swifts Girls U14 0 v 3 Cheam Colt Girls U14

Report: On Sunday 24th of January U14 Cheam Hockey played a fantastic game against Surbiton Hockey club. It was a close start with the ball being played near to the Surbiton goal; Cheam persevered and soon the goals were flying in. Eloise managed to score 3 goals for the team whilst a few near misses from Mel and Saffron were strong too. The motivation from the forwards was great; with a quality amount of teamwork and hand-stick coordination. Well done to Surbiton defense it was a close set of goals.

Although Cheam had the advantage of already scoring 3 goals in the second half, their performance standard didn't slack. Surbiton had a good forward line up and had a few unlucky misses towards the goal. However, Cheam defense stayed strong by covering the goal area and consistent marking of the Surbiton forwards. Two short corners were allowed but Cheam marked the goal and players and sooned cleared them both with no loss. Well done to Rebecca with the goal saving and to the defense for quickly clearing the ball.

The final score was 3-0 to Cheam and well done again. Much appreciation to the parents and coaches for the support, another cracking win for the club.

Cheam Colt Girls U14 2 v 2 Spencer

Report: On Sunday 29th of November U14 Cheam Hockey Squad played Spencer Hockey Club in the rain and freezing cold. Even though the temperatures were as low as 5°C, this didn’t keep our spirits low even after Spencer scored a goal. We came back fighting and scored a spectacular goal, given the powerfulness of Spencer’s tackles. Then it was half time we reviewed some tactics, came back and scored another amazing goal, but Spencer retaliated hard and after many spectacular saves Spencer scored in the top right hand corner of the goal, which was closely missed by our goalie. The short-corners were defended well by Eleanor whose fearless running towards the ball slowed down the opposition substantially and stopped many shots on goal. This then equalized the score, making it 2-2 with only minutes to go. Cheam had several shots on goal which missed by centimetres and many fabulous runs up the wings, which astounded the opposition with their speed.

Thank-you to Spencer, the umpires and everyone who came to watch. Cheam played very well, despite the weather conditions and were unlucky not to win.

Cheam Colt Girls U14 8 v 1 Richmond Leopards

Report: Cheam had a tremendous match on Sunday as they won. Cheam had a cracking start and scored a great goal straight away by Clare when she slapped the ball straight into the goal. Cheam ran back smiling as they had scored a goal in the first few minutes. Brillant passes were being made to set up a goal which was scored by Eloise. Ater this we had a few tries at aiming at the goal but Richmond were defending well. Cheam were determined to score another goal and they did, Eloise hit an amazing ball into the corner of the goal. Cheam were now paassing down the wings and using their skills to get passed the Richmond players. Saffron recived the ball at the top of the D and aimned for the goal, her goal was fantastic. It was nearly half time but Cheam stayed strong hoping to score again, Esther bought the ball into the D shot at the goal and we were delighted as we watched the ball fly past the players ! into the goal. It was now half time and both team coaches told their team how to improve.

The second half now began and minor position changes had been made. Richmond came back fighting and they had chances to score but our defence was solid and they cleared the balls fabulously. Zara and Lauras slaps down the wings and the middle were powerful, Keya and Caitlins defending and tackling was fantastic and Katrinas shadowing was awsome. Both teams played on but Richmond intecepted the ball and made a great run down the pitch and our defence was catching up but they just scored an excellent goal. Our goalie Rebbeca was unlucky but she stayed positive and made some good saves. Cheam were now driven to score. Once again a good pass was given to Sophie and she hit it towards the goal and scored. Cheam were still smiling and before the game ended, Eloise used her marvelous skills to make her way into the D and striked at the goal and scored. The last super goal was scored by Esther as she bought the ball into the D and wacked it at the goal. Cheam and Richmond player! s had put in great effort.

Cheam were very happy that they had once again defeated the opposition. The whole team was outstanding. Thankyou to Richmond who played very well, keep it up.

Wimbledon 2 v 4 Cheam Colt Girls U14

Report: On Sunday 8th of November U14 Cheam Hockey Squad played Wimbledon Hockey Squad in a league match. In the first half of the match, Wimbledon had scored two great goals and had got off to a flying start. Cheam had scored one goal, by Antonia which had kept up our spirits. At half time both teams talked about how to improve for the next half, and substitutions were made. In the second half, Cheam started to make a comeback with a brilliant short corner goal, by Sophie. This goal made us more determined to win the match. We were able to create another short corner and another brilliant goal again by Sophie. This lead enticed the players of Cheam to work even harder. We kept on striding forwards and making brilliant passes in order to try and score another goal as did our opposition team. Near the end of the match we were able to find one more goal, by Esther and we all knew that the end was in sight! . As the final whistle blew, we all smiled in delight of winning a really tough game. Both teams played really well and both teams should be very proud of their play in this game. Cheam Colt Girls U14 6 v 1 Epsom A

Report: What a fantastic start to the season!!We played 3 thirds to allow the girls to all get good game time and allow the coaches to talk to their respective teams. It started closely then Cheam seemed to step up a gear. The passing, defending and attacking was great. The girls were looking where they were passing leading to some super goals by GOTG Eloise 4 and 1 each for Sophie and Saffron. We made some lovely breaks in midfield with some fast strong running. There were also fine displays in defence by all girls, with some strong committed tackling, particularly Katrina who never gave up against a very good epsom player. Well done to Rebecca, in goal, who when called upon made some fine saves and looked confident.

Well done to all the younger girls for their first 'proper' game. They fitted in superbly.

Thanks to Epsom who I know had a young squad and helped to make the game so enjoyable and all Mums and Dads for your continual support.

Lets carry this on girls and have a great season.
