Girls’ U13 storm to a 1-0 win over PWs!
Report: Cheam’s U13 girls’ made the short trip to PWs on 28th Feb. The game was intended as a ‘taster’ of 11-a-side, full pitch hockey for our U12s about to move up to U14s. Also for our current U13s to get to know their new team mates for next season’s U14 games. Cheam started strongly and went on the attack immediately, they showed that all those passing drills we do week in, week out really can be used in a game and are worth practicing!! PWs simply could not keep up with the sweeping passing moves and strong running with the ball, not to forget the silky ball skills too. After much good work down the right from Clare, Natalie and Alison; Clare played a cracking cross into the D a few shots followed which the excellent PWs GK repelled, but Eloise was on hand with the killer shot, 1-0 Cheam! Much Cheam pressure followed and the PWs GK was being given a serious work-out by Amelia, Keya, Georgina and even our speedy right back Natalie, unfortunately for us the GK was up to the task. PWs did manage a few breaks which were calmly broken up by the able defensive work of Caitlin, Eleanor, Francesca and Natalie. Once or twice they got a shot on target but Rebecca was in no mood to let the ball pass her into the goal. The team really stuck to the task and battled well too; special mention for Keya who put a huge tackle in on a girl that was pretty much twice her height and came away with the ball, watch out at club day seniors these girls are tough! A fantastic performance by the girls, the score line didn’t reflect how dominant they were but a win is a win, they played well and I believe they really enjoyed themselves! Thank you to our gaggle of very encouraging supporters that braved the cold and rain. |
