Match report by
Uni of Surrey 3 v 3 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: Well done to all who played this week. After the disastrous game last week, Cheam held their heads up high and played the hockey we knew we could. Thanks and well done to Theresa for stepping in goal, making some great saves.

With no doubt about it the girl of the game was Lara for scoring all 3 goals. 2 from short corners and 1 from a penalty flick. This may be one of the most memorable games of the seasons as we were awarded TWO flicks!!!! Most of us don't even know the signal for one.... well, we do now obviously!!!!

Squad:   Theresa, Fiona, Ellie W, Katie, Sarah, Becca, Ellie. C, Ruth, Bails, Lucy w, Candy, Mary, Lara.
Girl of the Game:   Lara
Cheam Scorers:   Lara (3)

Bank of England 1's 4 v 2 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: Well it was the same amount of goals as last week but Cheam scored 2 of them which was fab!

We held our own all through the first half. BoE scored in the first 20 minutes but Cheam held their nerve and scored a great goal by Emily 5 minutes later and kept BoE on their toes until half time.

The second half started really well with a goal in the first 10 minutes from Cheam. We held up the oppo for a good 15 minutes but unfortunately in the last 10 minutes BoE scored from 2 short corners which were taken really well.

Cheam came off the pitch with their heads held high as we held our own for the 60 ish minutes of the game against a team who are in the division above us. Something to be proud of I say. Fingers crossed for our game against Croydon next week!!!!

Although we didn't officially vote this week, I have nominated Emily as girl of the game as she fought all the way to the end, making some excellent runs up the pitch and playing some lovely hockey.

Squad:   Lexi, Katie, Ellie, Mary, Frankles, Ruth, Ellie, Candy, Lucy, Amy and Emily

Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 3 v 2 Kenley

Report: What an amazing first 10 minutes of the game! The team played some lovely hockey making excellent use of the space and showing their speed and determination.
We scored twice within those first few minutes and had Kenley really worried! The first was scored by Amy and the second was a combination of Ellie and Amy at a short corner!!!
The oppo scored as well in the first half but we kept our cool until the half time whistle.

The second half was a tad worrying for those on the side lines!!! (Sorry Catriona and our fans.... well parents!). Luckily Emily had scored a great goal within the first 15 minutes of the second half but Kenley were hot on our heels as they scored another goal. 3-2. After some even more nail biting moments, we were lucky to keep the score at 3-2 but we did and that's all that matters!!!

Well done to the team for an excellent first half, let's try and remember that for next week!

Windsor Vets 3 v 1 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: All I can say is that it wasn't our finest hour. We should have beaten them by miles but we just couldn't get our heads in the game (although Beckie took this a bit too literally in the 2nd half, getting hit on the head with the ball - we hope you are ok!).

There were some excellent saves by Ailsa who played in goal for us. Thank you! -it would have been 10 without you!

Let's hope we play better next week.......

Squad:   Ailsa, Lara, Theresa, Fiona, Becca, Beckie, Amy, Candy, Amy. T, Lizzie, Saoirse, Little Ruth, Bails.

Match report by Amy
Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 2 v 1 London Edwardians 3's

Report: We always knew that this was going to be a close match. Both sides have had mixed results against the other teams in our league so we knew that these were our biggest threat for 5th place.

For the first 10 minutes we played some great hockey, passing the ball around nicely and running off the ball. Our steam seemed to run out after that time and unfortunately the oppo scored from a short corner. We stepped up our game a little bit more with some lovely play down both sides of the pitch. We were awarded a free hit outside the circle which was taking by Sarah who hit it to the right post where Lucy Edwards tapped it into the goal. A fantastic goal and a great welcome to the 3's as well for Lucy!

After a team talk from the boss (Catriona) and a helpful spectator (Sinead) we took on board all of their comments and played a much better second half. Lara made some fantastic hits (which we now need to learn how to stop!!!!). With about 20 minutes to go, Bails made a fantastic interception of an oppo's pass, ran with the ball to the middle of the D, passed it to Amy who slotted in the back of the net. 2-1. For the rest of the game we fought hard and stopped 5 short corners with some excellent runs by Sarah and clearances by Lara. Well done to the defence!

This is a great way to end our league games of the year. We have 2 weeks of friendlies now but can look forward to the league games in the new year with our heads held high. Well done to all who played!

Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 4 v 0 Uni of Surrey 1's

Report: From the start of the match, everyone was ready to go. Within the first 10 minutes we were awarded a short corner which was executed beautifully by Lara into the left corner of the goal.
We kept up with this momentum and the second goal came from a wonderful run by Sarah from the defence, who passed to Amy in the D and who scored the goal (all credit to Sarah though for an excellent run).
The third goal again came from another short corner this time Lara's shot was stopped by the goalie but Amy got the rebound in the back of the goal.

~Half Time~

The second half saw a fantastic goal from Emily who took the ball half way up the pitch and had a one on one with the goalie and she slotted it very nicely in the back of the goal. Well done Emily.

A highlight of the match was when the oppo were awarded a penalty flick and Spuggie called all of Cheam over to quickly give us some tactics. ALL of the Cheam team came over, including Lexi our GK who actually had to save it! (Which of course she did!).

This was a well fought match with everyone playing well. We are now looking forward to next weeks game!

15/11/2008 - Away Game

Match report by Amy
Croydon 2 v 1 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: This wasn't our best game of the season so to summarise, here are some highlights of it.

1. Fiona giving as good as she gets when her player was annoyed about her 'running commentary' throughout the game.
2. Bendy getting hit in the arm just before half time and mouthing off to the girl who did it (it was a shock as Bendy is usally so lovely on the pitch!).
3. The aerial balls that the other team (No. 15) kept doing.
4. Lara's amazing hits to the other end of the pitch.
5. Lara undercutting the ball and injuring the best player on the oppo (No. 15) so she went off.
6. Candy's goal...... possibly the best and worst goal we have seen this season, we have no idea where it came from but all goals count in our book!!! Well done Candy!
7. The determination of the team after Candy scored that goal. It was Eye of the Tiger stuff!!

Let's hope for better use of our skills and speed next week when we play against University of Surrey.

Squad:   Lexi, Candy, Mary, Katie, Sarah, Theresa, Amy, Ellie, Katie, Ruth, Fiona, Bendy,Bails.
Girl of the Game:   Ellie - for grit and determination on the pitch

Match report by Amy
Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 1 v 2 Surbiton 5's

Report: If we thought the weather last week was bad, this weeks was even worse. The rain came in some heavy down pours making conditions often difficult for all involved.

The first goal came from Surbiton, who managed to sneak one in past our excellent goalie Bev. However we kept up our pace with Ruth and Emily making some fantastic runs. Bails also made a superb run and passed to Amy who didn't miss this one, much to both Amy and Bails relief! 1-1 at half time.

We had the advantage having only just scored but unfortunately with 10 minutes to go the oppo found the back of the net. We fought hard until the end of the game and were awarded two short corners after the final whistle. However even with the super hit of Lara, we just couldn't get the goal. Final score 2-1. We played well and it should have been a draw but that's how games often go. Anyway, we have lots to build on at training and we can look forward to next weeks game with our heads held high.

Squad:   Bev, Lara, Emily, Amy, Bails, Ruth, Ellie, Beckie, Mary, Katie, Fiona, Theresa, Rose.

Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 2 v 0 Bank of England

Report: The game on Saturday was cold and wet however it didn't take long for the 'dream team' (Quote Chezza) to get into the game. Within the first 15 minutes we were 2 nil up, one goal from Candy and the next from Amy.

I think we had one of the shortest half times ever as it was so wet (it was just about enough time for Chezza and Fiona to swap on and off to umpire). The second half saw a mixture of possession, however we were unable to score but also luckily for us nor could they, thanks to some AMAZING saves by our girlie of the game Lexi.

Thanks to Mad Dog, Chezza and Fiona for umpiring, a difficult job in such awful conditions. We hope it hasn't put you off doing it again!!!

Squad:   Lexi, Ellie, Sara, Candy, Amy, Mary, Fiona, Chezza, Grimesy, Gill, Katie, Emily, Rose.

Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 2 v 1 Wanderer's 6

Report: We won! Whoop whoop!

A tough match against strong opposition. We played well and scored 2 goals from our short corners, this was rather suprising after the lack of success from them last week! Well done to Sinead and Jo for their excellent goals; NOTE Sineads was a reverse flick!

Let's keep this up!

Match report by Amy
Kenley 2's 1 v 1 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: Again we welcomed a new player to our team and what an impact she had to the game! Thanks to Ellie for recruiting Rosie to the 3's!

Having only 11 players this week, we were worried that we were not going to be able to keep up the fight all the way to the end of the match, but no, we fought all the way until the end.

The first half was dominated by us, we had (now I'm almost ashamed to say this) 12 short corners awarded to us, and we only managed to get one goal! The final whistle blew after we were awarded a short corner so all our team came down to help out. Ellie was selected to stop and hit it and what a cracker it was! We finished on a high.

The oppo made a good start in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half by scoring a goal from their FIRST short corner (that's why we are slightly embarassased!), and to be fair, it was a good one. But we kept up our momentum, with the play predominantly from our attack but we just couldn't find the back of the net. Bails made an awesome run towards the goalie, passed to Amy who was free, who then missed an open goal..........anyway, it was a great game with all members playing well. Catriona says she feels that a win is on the cards....

Squad:   Lexi, Ellie, Katie, Mary, Beckie, Rosie, Candy, Little Ruth, Bails, Amy and Emily.

Match report by Amy
Merton 2's 1 v 0 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: This week we welcomed Beckie and Andrea into our team. In the first half we had a nil nil draw although we were given many chances at short corners (note to practice these in training!). We had the possession the most but unfortunately just could not find the back of the net.

The second half started out well with some well rehearsed short passes between our players, however in the 20th minute of the half the oppo managed to find the back of the net. Andrea made some cracking saves in the 2nd half and the score could have been a few more so thanks and well done to Andrea! Man of the match went to Becca who showed strength and determination in defence.

We now all have to look towards our next game and as Vince Lombardi said "It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you get back up."

COME ON THE 3's!

Squad:   Andrea, Sarah, Katie, Mary, Becca, Ellie, Sinead, Beckie, Bails, Ruth, Emily, Amy.

Cheam Ladies 3rd XI 0 v 1 Guildford Ladies 4's

Report: The second league game of the season and we are delighted to say that we managed to get Mary back and also we had Bendy to help us too! We have missed you both! We must also say a big thank you to Ellie Waller who was recruited late Friday afternoon and in the position we were in most need of!! (Thanks to Grimesy for her help with finding her!).

Well, the game was a close call. The oppo scored in the first 10 minutes and then it was close the rest of the match. Catriona was pleased with how everyone played saying 'this is the team I like to manage!'. So lets keep this momentum up... but lets score some goals!!!

Squad:   Pankster, Ellie, Katie, Mary, Becca, Candy, Sinead, Amy, Bendy, Bails, Ruth, Emily

Match report by Amy
Reigate Priory 3's 1 v 3 Cheam Ladies 3rd XI

Report: First league game of the season and we went out really hard in the first 10 minutes dominating play. There were a few near misses in the first 20 minutes but it soon followed with a goal by Rose from a well executed short corner.
We started to get tired at the end of the first half and unfortunately the oppo scored. 1-1 half time.

The second half, again, was a mixture. Sometimes they were in control and then 2 seconds later it switched over. Lucky for us we had Rose and Ruth on our team and they scored some fantastic goals. Final Score 3-1. An excellent start to the season! Let's keep this momentum up!

Moment of the match - having been on the pitch for a maximum of 5 minutes, Claire had to go off with a hamstring injury. It has to be the shortest time someone has ever been on the pitch! We hope you make a quick recovery!

Squad:   Lexi, Frankie, Katie, Ellie, Sarah, Candy, Amy, Sinead, Emily, Ruth, Claire, Becca, Rose.
Man of the Match:   Ruth - for running her little legs off.
Cheam Scorers:   Ruth Ungoed-Thomas (1), Rose Hutson (2)
