The bookies review the runners and riders for the M3s Player of the Season Award...

The contenders this year...

Only played a few games this season before choosing a new career as a professional Facebook selfie-taker over hockey. If Pube wins the award, I'll leave the country in protest...

Played a few games in the first half of the season, before being demoted to the 2s. Not in the running this year.

What could tempt the voters?
Helped save the 2s from relegation

There are ways to suck up to Coach, but this probably isn't the best way. Every time he has played, he has made an impression, with backwards 'squarials' and cricket shots in the D.

What could tempt the voters?
When he's been available, its been good...

and what could turn them off?
When he's not available, we win anyway - leading some to ponder the important question: What is the point of Joe Oddy?

Andy Hart

Shunned hockey for boxing for the majority of the season. Even the most optimistic punter would surely lay elsewhere.

What could tempt the voters?
Ringside sympathy

Jonny Eales

Easy to forget that he had a great first half to the season for us, before being poached by the 1s and 2s. This pretty much puts him out of the running, but the odds are lower because Dom will probably vote for him anyway.

What could tempt the voters?
Surely a protest vote against the monstrosity that is Joe Cresswell

and what could turn them off?
Coops, and his decision to steal him from us.

50 / 1
Michael Karolak

Key member of a stingy defence, and has helped develop cross-team relations. However, just hasn't got involved enough this year for some, and is responsible for worn out F5 buttons throughout the Cheam / Worcester Park area. A long shot.

What could tempt the voters?
Fans of off-the field heroism will surely be tempted

and what could turn them off?
Thursday after Thursday of disappointment...

33-1
Ian Keddie

Been asked to play in numerous positions this year, and has never let the team down. Best not to involve our Scottish contingent too much though, as if he doesn't get the number of votes required, will piss and moan until we all have to vote again.

What could tempt the voters?
Nicola Sturgeon

Again... Nicola Sturgeon

Dom Beales

Has improved as the season progressed, but still an outsider. Didn't deliver on his promised one goal this year.

What could tempt the voters?
Literally minutes of excellent reading material, and that display vs Bank of England.

and what could turn them off?
Leaving the country, and that other display vs Bank of England.

25-1
Evan Davies

Solid as a rock at the back, but in a team closing in on 100 goals for the season, defenders are likely to get overlooked.

What could tempt the voters?
Setting the tone for the season with a great goal-line clearance early on in the first game.

and what could turn them off?
His passion for giving umpires feedback on their performance.

16-1
Chris Powell

Started life at Cheam in a hurry with some crucial goals. A fine first season, but the goals dried up at the end, hence the long odds.

What could tempt the voters?
Some great goals, including a lovely reverse vs Goan. His desire to play despite a wife in labour and a broken back.

and what could turn them off?
Perhaps didn't lobby for votes hard enough in the bar post-match.

10-1
James Buchols

A stone-cold Cheam hero who enjoyed another fine season in Tweed. Not a 'glamour player', so one for the hockey purist and therefore not a favourite. Could sneak a few votes though.

What could tempt the voters?
Buchols probably voted for the new NZ flag design, so he could do with some cheering up.

and what could turn them off?
Xenophobia

5-1
Chris Blackmore

Would be in amongst the favourites with some dynamic displays this season. However, his insistence on turning up to matches semi-naked, and his appalling excuses for missing fixtures may count against him.

What could tempt the voters?
Some excellent performances despite playing with a stick Slazenger produced for a dare.

and what could turn them off?
Perhaps one too many family dinners. Pneumonia.

3/1
Ted Szuman

Had a fine season. However, the voting public's collective memory may linger on his uncharacteristic display against ORs, and the time he got smoked for pace by Peter Griffin.

What could tempt the voters?
Surely a case of 'slow and steady wins the race'...

and what could turn them off?
That forwarded picture of Sammy.

3/1
Richard Coleman

Voting for your Captain is normally a huge faux-pas. However, 50 goals for the season cannot be ignored. Surely Nacer (world's angriest man) will block any mass voting for Goalman this year.

What could tempt the voters?
Fear, and the number 50.

and what could turn them off?
Hunger, and that Oyster Card bill straining from too many trips to Putney.

5/2
James Mantle

Returned to hockey with a fine season, and a solid goal tally bolstered by the successful deployment of the world's most complex short corner routine. Has to be a strong contender.

What could tempt the voters?
The memory of goals vs Goan, BoE and Surbiton.

and what could turn them off?
Unnecess-arial haters may look elsewhere...

5/2
James Morris

Followed up a decent first half of the season with a barn-storming second. The goals finally started flowing too.

What could tempt the voters?
Performances vs BoE, Woking and Addiscombe. Plus I think everyone enjoyed the night out for his 18th birthday.

and what could turn them off?
Votes could get split, with scores of voters accidentally casting their ballot for Dom or Joe instead.

Let's see who prevails on 9th April...
Big Gun
