Lucy Wood is a former GB and England Women's Field Hockey player who won a Silver medal with Team England at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and was in the GB Centralised training squad for two years leading up to the Rio Olympic Games, 2016. She has played club hockey around the world and is also a qualified Personal Trainer.
She has contacted us about an opportunity for the junior players at Cheam HC to attend one of her own coaching camps over October Half Term. Camps are designed to help improve their technical and tactical game play and inspire them to work hard to fulfil their potential and play at the top level.
Since becoming an elite athlete, Lucy has greatly enjoyed, and become increasingly involved with, developing the games of young hockey players in the UK, and helping to grow the sport at grassroots level. As a qualified hockey coach, in August 2016, after coaching at local clubs and making guest appearances on several courses, Lucy decided to set up her own academy called 'Flame Hockey Academy'. It is currently based in the South of England and players from across Surrey/Sussex have attended our holiday camps over the last 2 years.
Lucy and her assistant coaches deliver sessions in the following areas:
- Technical skills work
- Tactical knowledge and game awareness
- Strength and Conditioning
- Match play
Lucy and her assistants have secured some great sponsors for the Academy. These include TK Hockey, who provide a lot of equipment, Yazoo Drinks, helping with players' recovery and refreshments on camp; most recently Crazy Catch UK, whose rebound boards are an exciting addition to my sessions. They are thrilled to see how popular the Academy has become and love meeting so many talented hockey players.
To find out more about the Academy please follow the link to the website www.flamehockeyacademy.co.uk or see the attached flyer for more details.
*NOTE* Cheam HC hold no interest in this coaching academy, we are just distributing a message from a company who politely contacted us and is relevant to our club. We may in future put on a camp with this Academy (or a similar business) and would like to understand the interest level within the club of hosting such an event at Nonsuch.
